One of out garden centres local to me is more of a home centre/DIY store, selling everything from furniture to screws, garden supplies to xmas decs.

I've recycled from what they have thrown away before, and have built two Pergolas from it. I went round the back of the store yesterday to see what was being chucked and found this perfectly brand new display bin, still flatpacked in the box and wrapped in Plastic. It has a detachable front and will from now on be our new leaf mould storer. 3ft high and 18" x 18"

I'm finding most attitudes have changed so that when I ask. "Can I have that?" The answer I most commonly get now is "Go ahead, saves it going to landfill"

    A good find!

When I was working, suppliers would often send in stands to display new lines, I always binned them (still in their cartons) as I didn't like them cluttering up the aisles (nor did the customers). I'd have the lines incorporated into the correct section.

I often "recycled" some of these stands, particularly those with square-section one inch steel tubing. I've a couple of "L" shaped sections which have served for the past twenty years as hand rails with nice mahogany capping, to our patio steps.

They often have thick plastic covered wire mesh backs to these stands. I used them for the fronts of my daughter's rabbit hutches.
A visit to the back of any big superstore will find a lot of useful stuff ready for chucking out.
