Hello - new here so please be gentle!

I'm in the precess of rejigging my garden, having moved house fairly recently, and among other things this involves moving the greenhouse to a new area which will house the veg garden. This area is, roughly speaking, shaped like a shallow D, with the straight side open to the south but enclosed on west, north and east sides. To to the west , there are large beeches and sycamores (not in my garden and little prospect of getting them cut), and to the east a large yew tree (which is mine, but I'm reluctant to cut). To the north is a steep bank, on the top of which there is a big oak tree - again not mine - this is more or less in the middle of the curve of the D, and far enough back not to shade the garden, but I don't want to put the greenhouse directly under it for fear of falling branches, so cannot put the greenhouse in the middle of the D even though this is where it would get most sun!

So my dilemma is this: do I put the greenhouse at the west end of this patch, where it will get more morning sun, but lose the afternoon sun once the beech and sycamores come into leaf, or do I put it on the east side, where it will not get the morning sun due to the yew, but will get more afternoon sun? Whichever I choose, it can go on a more or less east-west axis. Overall, I think the east side gets a bit more sun through the summer months, but the west side will maybe get more sun in spring before the leaves are on the trees, which is perhaps more useful for seedlings etc.

Given the choice, do you think that morning sun is more important than afternoon sun, or vice versa? If it's relevant, I'm intending to use the greenhouse for raising seeds and growing a few tomatoes etc, but am not unduly concerned about overwintering plants in it at this stage.

I`d say morning sun so your plants get growing early in the day. It won`t matter if they lose the sun in the afternoon as they`ll still be in active grow mode.
If they have to wait until the afternoon they`ll probably get up to speed just as it gets dark

I don't know the answer, but my inclination would be for afternoon sun - so that the house heats up gently and any moisture sat on the leaves evaporates before the sun can use it as a lens to scorch the leaf.

My conservatory is West facing. It doesn't get direct sun until 11am. The other benefit is that if I forget to go out an water early on it doesn't matter as it hasn't got hot enough for everything to wilt!

If one will get, say, an hour more sun than the other then I would make the choice on that basis alone.

I too would be inclined towards afternoon sun.
