Hi all. A while back although we had grown petunias from seed Morrison had Petunias for sale and very healthy looking plants as well. We purchased some and are some of the best we have ever had.
Today went down Morrison to buy bits & pieces and they have Violas @ 20 for £3.00. Again very healthy looking plants so we purchased 40.They also have have Pansies & chrysanthemums for sale ready for next year. Not sure how many Pansies & mums you get but again very healthy looking plants and £3.

You just need to get in there fast as the plants arrive, they never seem to water them.

As a sideline I was looking, looking is mostly what I do:biggrin: around a Wyevales, a lady was watering the house plants, and I'd noticed that some of the bonsai were totally bone dry.
She explained that she only worked there two days a week and nobody else bothers to water them.
She also said that some of the youngsters that work there were on less than £3 an hour.

Bearing in mind the sky high prices Wyevale charge for stuff I dont think I'll ever buy anything there again.

Blimey @pete, I'm not sure if I'm more annoyed about the plants not being watered or them paying people less than £3 an hour to work!
Wyvales are expensive but I do like a wander round! Their bulbs are really good :blue thumb:

Apparently (and this was told to me by an employee) health and safety rules mean that they cannot water them :hate-shocked::dunno::scratch:

...yes, I'd heard that too. Any business that's not a registered garden centre isn't allowed to water their plants due to 'elf and safety.

Surely that has got to be the biggest joke of all time, if its true, then some prat from the health and safety executive, needs to be sorted out big time.

No wonder everyone I know thinks there are a complete bunch of jobs worths, and that is putting it mildly.

The HSE is actually fairly sensible for a government quango.

The problem is not with them so much as the insurance companies. If you actually read the health and safety at work act, it is very vague. It's more broad guidelines than concise law. The problem arises in the interpretation. For example, something like 'as far as is reasonably practicable the work place should be free of hazards' is probably supposed to mean 'don't light a bonfire in the middle of the office', but could be interpreted as 'don't spill water on the floor in case some half wit sees a puddle, halucinates pound signs, careful kneels down and then screams loudly that they've scuffed their knee'.

...yes, you're right, it's interpretation of the law that's the problem.

Well if you going to make regulations,..... make them :)

Dont come up with some half baked bunch of "guidelines" that are vague and open to all kinds if interpretation to whoever feels like making a claim.

Its worse than not having any regs. at all.

I agree, but to be fair to whoever made up the health and safety at work act, I think they were merely trying to build common sense into law.

They could have been specific and listed every possible hazard they could think of and then ban it, but then inevitably you'd get someone who did something incredibly stupid that nobody had thought of, like releasing an angry crocodile on the shop floor or something.

The health and safety at work act, with all its vagueness and all its sentences that start with 'as far as is reasonably practicable' and sentences containing 'should' can really be condensed down to one sentence that reads, 'think about your staff and visitors, and don't be an idiot'. Unfortunately there are two problems with that. Firstly, the lawyers that wrote the final wording would have a hard time justifying their enormous rates for that, and secondly, there are idiots out there that need help with their common sense.
