I've used a strong mix of Jeyes fluid, spray it on and leave it for a week. It gets rid of algae on its own, the moss will blacken and then you can use a stiff broom and/or jetwash to get rid.

A wise, practical and very knowledgeable ex-Liverpool docks crane driver, a neighbour of mine who died several years ago, had the perfect remedy.

Whilst I blasted everything on my drive with my "industrial strength" jetwash (it'd tale the paint of your car if you used the lance), he would use a garden pressure sprayer on his drive (paving slabs) every couple of months, it took no time at all and it stayed spotless. No sign of moss or weeds.

    What did he use?

A mild solution of ordinary household bleach.

I think Doghouse's old friend may have had the right idea. We took our dinghy to Dartmouth a couple of years ago and wanted to launch it on the slipway that the upper ferry uses. Not only did we have to contend with the comings and goings of the ferry but the council were clearing the seaweed from the slipway at the same time. And what were they using? Bleach! It got rid of the weed but made launching the boat a bit problematic:help:

Yes and if "Algie" becomes a persistent nuisance, we'll send the heavy mob round to sort him out.

    (sorry!)

Going back to the original topic, but digressing slightly, I've got lichen growing on the stems of some of my azaleas, I'm trying Dithane to see if it gets rid of it.

Doghouse, if your Azaleas are in all other respects healthy, I wouldn't worry too much about the lichen. It's usually an indicator of good air quality so it could be that you're in a healthy environment.

Thanks for that, but I was aware that it's not thought harmful, but it is quite unsightly and you know me....
