Due to an area of my "patio" being shaded year round, I have a moss issue. It was here when I arrived and the blighter persists: grr! *waves-fist-in-air smiley if we had one*

I would welcome any sage advice on how to deal with it and thank you, kindly, in advance :)

Hire a jet washer "M" and I'll go halves with you, mine will need doing as well if this weather ever lets up! :)

It's been really bad on my driveway this autumn/winter - I tried a bleach solution and brisk scrubbing which normally does the trick. Had to resort to using a jet washer in the end.

If the rain doesn't stop soon my whole house will go green, as for my "miles" of hellish crazy paving...you can hardly tell where my grass stops and the paths begin. In some ways the crazy paving is improved with it's green covering altho fairly lethal to walk on as slippery as hell in places....sigh. I have a good electric pressure washer which comes in handy for various areas come the Spring and have been offered the use of a petrol 1 for areas where my extension lead won't reach. Still a mucky job which I am not looking forward to!

What they do over here is jet blast it, wash down with a bleach solution and then seal the concrete with a sealer, at least 3 coats. It takes 2 days because the concrete has to be completely dry

Thanks @chuck - I'll do the pressure wash and bleach, but a sealant would just be a step too far. Mainly because I don't think that corner *ever* dries out totally, hence the moss issue.

I shave it off with my spade, and then get some sharp sand, put a hand full down in a target area, and sweep. The sand is abrasive so it does an effective job of clearing the stragglers, and muck, etc, that the spade couldn't get.

I totally understand. There are things you could possibly do however to dry the patio enough. There are water based sealers that work OK but not great that last 3 or 4 years. The absolute best way that we have found for a permanent fix is to enclose the area with plastic to keep it out of the rain and use a torpedo heater. These heaters run on kerosene and are fairly expensive to buy but we can rent them, and boy do they ever work. They will dry out cement and heat it up in no time at all. The very best sealer is epoxy based and lasts just about forever. Moss will still grow on it but all you have to do is hit it with a strong stream from your garden hose and it slides right off. Plus you can make it any color you like.

I would recommend jet washing your patio to get rid of the moss. If you don't have a jet wash then i would try Concentrate Jarder Spray & Leave Cleaner. Simply spray it on and leave for a couple of minutes and it should just all come off.

                      Thanks

@"M" glad you asked :) I have a damp patio corner too which gets no sun at all, not much moss thank god but the slabs are stained black/green, looks easy enough to scrape/jet off but I was just wondering have you or anyone tried the Jeyes patio cleaner? If so any good or should I just use bleach like I normally do?

I can't offer any constructive advice, but it does sound like a pressure washer is the way to go! Considering getting one myself for my constantly shaded, north facing front path, but no moss or anything is threatening.. yet. :th scifD36:
