    Hi
I am after some advice please .
I have bought a petrol lawn rake /aerator and have used it on my grass and removed a lot of moss and other crap but its left some bald bits and I was wondering if I get grass seed and use a spreader to spread it ( obviously ) and then water it thoroughly would the seed start to grow or would I have to dig up the bald bits and reseed that way .
I haven't used weed feed and moss killer this year yet my thought was reseed then try using it later in the year and scarify it then again to get the remaining moss out .
I haven't much idea as I usually use moss killer then scarify once .
    Thanks for any advice

Welcome to Gardeners Corner David. :) If you intend to use a weed, feed and moss killer then it would be best done now before you lay grass seed. Leaving it until later in the year could weaken the new grass. Whenever I have to re-seed or on the rare occasion replace a lawn I don't use any chemicals for the first year as they tend to weaken the grass as it establishes, that includes feeding as there are enough nutrients in the soil to sustain it until it reaches maturity.

If the lawn has been aerated it won't be a problem laying the grass seed straight onto the bare patches and covering it lightly with some compost. Firm it down afterwards and remember to keep it watered, don't water to heavily or it will wash the seed out.

You don't necessarily have to use a spreader particularly for patches. I've always sown by hand even for a complete lawn. :)
