Hi all, does anyone know if you can grow mosses from seed ? Or are they just propagated ?

    Ooo,

Mosses have free swimming sperm, they have to wait for the right weather conditions to have sex, bit like being a teenager when you haven't got your own place really.

You could if you go to the bother of harvesting the little swans necks at a stage when they are totally ripe.

There is lots of 'swan necks' at the moment on the moss I have. Might be worth harvesting a few and seeing what happens.

            Hi Gazania .
I was just trying to find some time to make few moss detail in my garden ....but just can take any time off work.
Anyway the propagation it very easy , get some moss anyone you like , local English moss and blend it with condensed milk and a bit of milk , get a brush and spreed it anywhere you want .

Wow, that's neat. I wonder if it will work on top of a stone Japanese lantern ?

Take a clump of healthy moss and crumble it into your blender.
Add 2 cups of buttermilk (double cream or condenced milk will do as well )and 2 cups of water (use rain water)
Blend at the lowest speed until it is completely mixed and the consistency of a thin milk shake. (add water if necessary)
Paint the mixture onto rocks, pots or statuary, or simply pour it on the ground wherever you'd like your moss to grow!
It just the perfect time of the year to propagate moss , I`m actually would like to paint one of my terracotta pot .
for more Ideas search for japanese moss garden , moss ball or kakadama .

Right sal, I have some moss in my garden. Tomorrow I shall try it out and I will let you know how I get on. Now I just have to convince my wife that it's okay to put moss in her blender ;)
