    Hi all,

Apologies for the low quality of the images - they were taken very quickly on a camera phone. We have had a few of these at work in the past few weeks - I have never seen anything like them in this country before. They are HUGE! The one here was about 2 inches across, but previous ones have been 4 or even 5 inches!

Anyone know what they are (apart from zonking great moths)?! ;)

From the size I would think some kind of hawk moth, maybe lime from the scalloped wings and tail shape, but the limes have finished flowering here. Have to wait for the experts!

    Check out this link

First one looks like the Poplar Hawkmoth, quite difficult to see the second one. Hope this helps

Hey Bayleaf! Thank you so much for the ID - that looks exactly right! No wonder it is the most requested for ID - it's a stunning creature!

Thanks as well Liz - you were obviously on the right track! :D

[IMG] Just looked again in my little butterfly and moth guide [still open where I looked before]- can't read- picture of poplar moth is over description of lime! Sorry DIHG. Bayleaf, that is an excellent link, I've put it in favourites, thanks.
