We've got too many climbers in our garden and so, going for the logic of I shouldn't keep things for the sake of it, the vine is going to go. I know a couple of people that are just doing new (and large) gardens that might be interested, but is it possible to move a vine? I guess the main stem is now about 2" in diameter, and there are so many other plants around (one of the reasons its got to go) it wouldn't be possible to get a huge root ball.

If it is worth a shot, any recommendations on the best way to go about it? And when (I'm guessing mid-winer on that one)?

    Thanks :)

I considered moving an old vine but it was very well established and was in a difficult place to get at so I gave up. However, I pruned it heavily and used some of the cuttings as pea sticks. Several of them struck! (I seem to recall that I did this in April - quite the wrong time to prune a vine and it bled profusely).

My point is that if you damage your vine in removing it, from my experience it should be vigorous enough to survive.
