If you want identification Jean a photo would help.
I have a few ferns and when they get too big I split them. Don't know if that works with all of them though, I'm sure someone will find one that won't split.

To set it going, I would have thought Polystichum aculeatum. But it's too big.

I'm not good on ferns, I dont really grow many, if any properly.
It looks like a young dicksonia to me, I would ask Jean, does it have a short hairy trunk.
Looks like there is a darker green one next to it on the right.

That's an awful lot of fronds for a dicksonia Pete. Also if it's a dicksonia why would anybody think about dividing it? They would see it has one trunk. My only other thought is a P. munitum which is big. How tall is it Jean? I assume that's a geranium to the left? That gives us some sense of scale.

Jean said it was 4ft high.
I'm only guessing, I cant even pronounce most fern names, but I must say, cycad fronds to the right, you have got to be joking. :D

Hi It has a hairy trunk but I dont think its Dickensia as their are too many fronds and trey come out from the bottom not the top of the trunk. It is approx 4 ft high and beautiful fronds.

The fronds do come out of a 1 ft hairy trunk rather than out of the ground.

Looks like a dicksonia to me as well Pete, C M the fronds can grow out of the bottom as well as the top of the trunk,John the one on the right looks more like a type of Blechenum not a Cycad.

It is Dicksonia, my fern is exaxtly the same as Jeans'. 1 foot tall with lots of fronds this year. I am thinking of moving it to allow the fronds its full potential. I am worrid it may not like its new home.
