I have two fuchsia by my front door which are very old and woody. They were here when we moved in and I gave them a hard prune last year and they're OK. However I need to move them to the back garden now -- when would be the best time to dig them up - any foreseeable complications?

I also have two fuchsias that have sprung up in my lawn  One is just a little branch that randomly appeared and now has a singly lonely flower on it ... the other is a bit bigger (three whole little branches!). I can only assume they are leftover from when we dug up the entire garden after we moved in two years ago - they must have somehow made it to the surface (we terraced the garden). Again, can I just dig these guys up? When?

(please say now! I can pot and greenhouse for the winter if need be!)

i am sure an expert will say wait till the spring but from my own experience i would say dig up now, prune back, pot up and keep in green house over winter ( i have not even bothered to put mine in the green house just re planted and they have been fine ) but i am sure some else will be along soon with more advice

Chitting Kaz, advice of my own heart!

It's quite mild and they already live out, so I might just go for it and hope for the best!
