Hi Kelmart, welcome to Gardeners Corner:thumbsup::snorky: As JWK has suggested, can you give a description of your garden as well as the size of the Tree and the Lilac. So does your garden face South, East, West, North?, is your soil clay?, sandy?, stony?, loamy?, and is the garden shady? or sunny?:dunno::snorky:

Anytime between now and the end of march should be fine, but avoid doing it when its frosty. Take as much rootball as you can and I would add bone meal to the planting hole, firm in, good water and it should be fine. Both are going to appreciate a sunny position, the plum more so.
