    Hey all,

My garden is less than a year old (planted in april/may), now that the flower bed has established itself I have decided that I want to move a lot of it around (large bushy plants in the middle, low covering plants in the corners).

When would be the best time to do this, I guess we are getting a late winter again this year with snow most probally coming in March like last year.

Assuming moving the plants doesn't kill them off, I am going to guess they will struggle this year to produce any flowers due to their root systems being damaged when dug up.

    Cheers

Hi adamsh, It's a good time to move deciduous shrubs because they're dormant. Evergreens would need a bit more care but if you can dig a fair-sized rootball out and then keep an eye on them (perhaps fleece them?) when it's freezing or windy, they should be OK. A lot depends on whether their roots have got very far out of the original rootball in the months since you planted them. If they were in peat-based compost, it's not likely.

Thanks, so best to wait for it to get cold before moving them, I assume before the frosts set in?

Looking out the window there are about 6 Lavender Bushes, 2 Marguerite bushes and a couple rockery plants such as Dianthus deltoids and arabis rose delight.

      Cheers

Aieee....Lavender and Marguerites I wouldn't risk...they're a bit on the tender side. Perhaps wait until April/May according to the weather??

ok cheers, will give it a go in April. If they don't survive the move its not the end of the world, ill just get some more lavender and replace the Marguerites with something else.
