I seem to remember that Rhubarb "should not be moved" however I must move my two year old rhubarb to a new position or loose it (giving up part of the allotment) - The question is WHEN - when it is still growing (like now) or when it is dormant (in the late autumn before the ground freezes ?

    Hi Nick
Wait until the rhubarb has died back in the autumn, then carefully dig up the crown with as large a rootball as possible and plant in the new location. this might be a good time to divide it if it is a large crown (just slice a spade right through the middle and plant the two halves separately). In the first year you shouldn't harvest any crowns that have been divided as they need time to recover, but you can harvest the year after.

    Thanks Pete,
    All sounds sensible and logic.

    Hey Varalo,

Petes advice is sound, as always. I planted a new clump this spring, intending not to pick until next year but its done so well that I had to have 2 stalks off it today to go with the apple pudding. By Jove it was acidic, but good, just had to put more sugar with it.

Follow the advice above Varallo, or just move it when you like.
Rhubarb is all but a weed and will get on fine whatever you do to it.
Just dig a big hole, dig out the rhubarb, and plonk it it in. I'll be surprised if it comes to any harm.
