Hi guys... I realise sycamore isn't everyone's most popular choice of tree, but for me, a few are providing some much needed shelter on an exposed part of our garden down on the farm.

On this note, I have noticed a few 1-1.5m saplings nearby. In a bid to create some more much needed shelter, I was wondering if it is now too late in the season to move them to a position where I would rather they were...

A novice to this gardening lark but keen to get stuck in an enjoy my garden as much as possible.

I appreciate any advice on the matter...

    Cheers
    Paul

You might as well move them, what have you got to lose? Would have been better before the buds broke, though. You could identify and nurse a few more seedlings ready to transplant next Autumn if they don't succeed. No point in paying for sycamores!

@Madahhlia Yeah that's my thoughts... Would just be keen to know their chances of survival. Are there things I can do to increase their chances of survival? I've heard sycamore is fairly robust...

Water them very well before digging up, and when re planting. Give them a stake till they get settled in :)

Choose cool, cloudy, showery weather to transplant, or do it in the evening and provide day time shade for a few days.

Thanks for the advice guys... Would the same apply for wholesale purchased saplings in pots too??

I guess so, especially if the soilball gets disturbed much.
