mulch help please

    Hi guys the council have just prunned a massive willow tree over the road and have left a big pile of mulch from it.Would this be ok to use as mulch on my garden please?Many thanks ...daz

    Don't see why not. As long as it hasn't been there too long and dogs have fouled it. Strip the leaves off and bag them up till they rot down and you'll have a lovely leaf compost to use.

    Hi D and D, If they`ve chipped or shredded this material I would definitely mulch with it. If it`s free use it. David.

    Bear in mind that willow will grow from almost anything.

    Personally I would not use it until its well rotted.

    The problem with willow leaves is that they take ages to rot down so are not very good as mulch unless they have been shredded very small. Also, if you have a pond and the leaves haven't rotted yet they may blow into the pond. Willow leaves can poison the water.
