Multi headed sunflower

      Cool, there's a few plants doing odd things this year, tomatoes are going v shaped when they shouldn't.

      A stray sunflower seed from my bird feeder has germinated. It's only small with one flower...looks good though. :)

      This one started its life in a hanging basket god knows were the seed come from

        Often if you cut off the main head, a sunflower will produce multiple flowers.
        I dont think its that unusual to get a few smaller ones as well.

          Same packet of seed, planted 10 sunflowers, 8 were just one head and 2 were multi headed all plants are 10 to 14 feet high

            Some varieties of sunflower have been bred to produce multiple flower heads and I find the range of colours and patterns a continuing surprise.

            Had my first experience of a multi head last year (tickled me funny bone!)

            This year, one of my plants was exceptionally generous in flower heads!

            Now, I did buy a sunflower plant which is designed to produce multiple flower heads, but, the one's I'm referring to were described as being a solo flower head.

            Enjoy, save the seeds and ... enjoy them again next year :dbgrtmb:
