I would like to plant some magnolias in the front garden but have visiting Muntjacs. The front garden is exposed & I don't want to install 6 foot gates. Has anyone found magnolias to be immune to decimation, I know rabbits love magnolias but at the moment we seem to be rabbit free.

I don't have any practical experience apart from I know what they eat down my allotment, jerusalem artichokes are top of the menu at the moment, but the rhs lists magnolias as more deer resistant Deer-resistant plants / RHS Gardening

You could wire cage the bottom of the magnolia until most of its branches are out of reach as it's more the lower limbs that will be on the menu if they do take a fancy to it.

No, Magnolias aren't deer resistant Dave. They aren't as attractive to eat as other plants but deer/muntjacs will damage them.

    Thank you
The only plants they don't like in the front garden are Kiftsgate rose & box. I've got a load of lavender plugs that I'm growing on & going to try a couple of plants there for a couple of weeks before I plant them out

Apparently deer don't like the smell of Lavender but I haven't tried them. They haven't touched my poppies or lupins.

This proves they won't eat plants that are very poisonous. :)
