Hi folks. I have an old bottle of Murphys Tumblebug (systemic insecticide). The problem is I can`t read the instructions to obtain the rate of use. Does anyone know what the rate of use is ? Cheers...freddy.
Hi pete. When looking around my local GC, I wasn`t able to find any T/B although it can be bought online. I DID wonder if it had been banned. Any ideas why it would be banned ? Cheers...freddy.
I'm not sure that it is banned but a while back the EC got involved, disaster ensued. Now many of the old chemicals that we used to use are banned simply because the companies involved did not consider it worthwhile paying large amounts of money to do tests laid down by the EC. It does not mean they are any more dangerous than the newer ones, just not tested to EC standards. If anyone knows more please lets hear it.
I`d still like to know the ratio (dilution) Having used it in the past, I always found it effective. Thing is, I`d like to apply it to my broad beans. I`ve tried using a `contact` insecticide but the blackfly are still there. Cheers...freddy.
Yep I know what you mean, not used it myself for a while, so cant help with the dilution. You could just guess it, dont tell anyone, but I get fed up with those stupid caps they put on the bottles these days, it downright messy as well. So I just add the odd glug sometimes, the only one I measure meticulosly is weed killer, its bloody expensive.
pete, have you tried the systemic weedkiller from Wilkinsons ? I bought some a few weeks ago, and it works. It was around £7.50 a bottle (concentrated). I bought 2 bottles which roughly equates to one bottle of Roundup. The difference is, Roundup costs around £40 ! Cheers...freddy.
Hi. It is 5milli litres to one and a half litres of water. Spray vegetables or fruit only once, flowers can be used as often as required! As for being banned, of course it is, years ago, but who's worried?
Yeah I have bought glyphosate instead of roundup, and its cheaper, but I think its the amount you tend to need compared to a pesticide that makes it work out expensive.
I seem to remember that you could get a spray that was harmless to bees I always used that on broad beans. Cant think of the name now though.

Hi again pete. Was that a systemic insecticide ? I`m away for the weekend, and no doubt I`ll be visiting at least ONE GC
Freddy a word of caution, pesticides deteriorate with age storing conditions can exacerbate this the actual chemical make up can be altered, if it were me I wouldn't risk it dispose of it, usually there are specific instructions of how to do this on the label but as you can't read it you have a problem ,you can't pour it down the drain, maybe have a word with the local authority they probably have proceedures.
