Musa sikkimensis redtiger

    Hi guys iv just been to look at my redtiger only to find it completaly dead.Im gutted' i only got it in the autum last year ;so i dont have any pups of it.If anybody on here would kindly sell me a pup i would be so greatfull.Many thanks...daz

    Don't know what the red tiger bit is, but I have a musa sikkimensis in the garden, had it for 2 yrs it's wrapped in fleece at the moment but it looks fine! all my nana's are looking good at the moment I think a couple will flower this year. :D

    Hi t.o.I beleive it's called redtiger because of the stripes on the leafs.I do have another kind of sikkimensis that's called musa sikkimensis manipure.I also have the plain green type.I;v also lost a musa velutina.

    Sorry daz, cant help, I think that particular variety of sikki is not all that common at the moment.
    Did it come from jungle plants?

    I think your problem MAY have been a late rooted pup, if its not established before winter comes the chances of survival are low.
    I've found its better to leave offsets alone after about late July, and cut them off the following spring after growth has started.
    That gives them chance to establish in a pot really well before winter.
    Just my thoughts. [​IMG]

    Yea that makes alot of sence mate.Last year was my first so still got lots to learn.I had it in the shed near the window fleeced up but as you say mate it was taken away from the mother in autum.These are the plants iv got for the comming year.Musa icecream'ensete maurellei'red monty'musella lasiocarpa'sikki manipure'I already have basjoo.Just can't wait till it's time to get them planted out now.

    Yea im not sure about the icecream thou.I don't think its very hardy but oohh well it's worth a go i reckon.Oh i also 2 snow bananas.Thay are nice looking plants thay have a really waxy trunk and a kinda blueish colour leaf.Althuo the ones iv got are still only small.

    you need a heated greenhouse for winter protection daz,I'm sure that would help no end in getting the plants through the winter.

    Yes i think your right mate.We had the lowest temp here in lincolnshire for years last week it got down to -9
