Mushroom ID?

    I just found this odd object in the middle of a wild patch of garden. Not near any tree roots or anything that I can imagine it is living on. Just the one. Clearly something has either trodden on it or had a peck at it because it’s rather crumbly with a few bits missing. It’s about 3” across and the same high.

    Any idea?

      Cauliflower fungus perhaps?

      It does look very much like that. The only slight problem is that the cauliflower fungus appears between August and November. But otherwise, I’d say spot on. :)

      Yes, thanks for that. I did wonder about morel mushrooms but the one I have here doesn’t seem to have any stalk. It just seems to sit in the grass. The season for appearing, spring, is right for morels though. :)

        Oh yes, I'd totally forgotten about mushroom seasonality! There's not much in the Spring is there - definitely looks most like Morel.
