Given that I know nothing about plants, and that the stock response from anything hoticulturally alive, is to turn black the moment I touch it, can someone advise me on hyacinths please?
During the weekend I weeded the borders of the front garden. And I also re-buried the ducting containing the cable TV/phone/internet supply, which had worked its way to the surface.
In doing so, I had to remove a clutch of flowering hyacinth bulbs and replant them, individually, when I had finished. They now look very sad and limp.
I watered them as soon as I had finished. And have watered them twice since.
Is it likely that they will recover? Is there anything further that I should do to aid their recovery?

    thanks,
    Jack

Hi Jack, welcome to GC :sign0016:

I don't really know a lot about hyacinths, but do have some in my back garden in a border that is in the middle of a couple of walls if you know what I mean? I don't really want them to be honest, and have ripped them out by the handful over the past couple of years, and they just keep coming back.

Yours probably won't do much more now this year, but left in place they will probably come back with a vengeance next year.

Thank you. You've put my mind at rest. (they were planted by my wife) :heehee:
I would like to see them recover; if only for my own safety.
I must admit that I had considered hyacinths as delicate plants - from what you say, they appear to be fairly vigorous.

      Much appreciated.

        You're welcome :)

I am very much a learner myself, but I am finding that many plants are a lot more robust than you might think - indeed, growing a lot of stuff from seed, I have found that the ones I pamper often don't do well, yet the ones I lob into trays and just water once in a while tend to take off.

Just so you'll know for the future, Jfo, when lifting bulbs that are "in leaf" it's better to lift them with as much soil around the roots as possible. That way there's no damage or shock to the roots and the bulbs will settle in their new site much quicker!!:coffee::snork:

            Thank you. That is helpful.
I must confess that I shook all of the soil off the bulbs. I will know better next time.

"(they were planted by my wife) "Ah ha the reason for asking for help on GC!!!!!? Nothing like being in the dog house when plants have been "damaged". Seriously the bulbs will not have appreciated the check in their growth and will probably sulk until it's their natural time to die back. The good news is that all things being equal the bulbs should give a great show next year.
