I thought I'd share this with you,

At the end of may my four year old little lad wanted to plant his own basket so I of course encouraged him.

It was planted with plug plants that I spent, ahem, he spent no more than a fiver on and it's looking great! He put the compost in, the plants where he wanted them, alls I did was hang it on a bracket, it's the best one so far that is at our house!

Here's a pic of his little wicker pig too

He feeds the basket and pig and waters them every night. He's also planted a sunflower, 2 cucumber plants and a runner bean. Sooo proud of him!

Thanks loli and doug, he's as proud as punch with it, he's definately taken an interest in gardening. Loves helping me water all mine after he has done his. He's even asking to go the garden centres to look at the pretty plants and flowers!

Thanks val and honeybunny, he wanted to put the pig on the front driveway so everyone can see it who walks past!! I've shown him how to deadhead tonight too, and naturally he deadheaded healthy blooms as well. The dahlias and non stop begonias are missing a few health big heads now, but he's got the gist on how to pinch out. He's got his own waterbutt, fork, rake, spade, gloves and watering can so he can tend his own patch in the garden by the little playhouse.

Lovely Al n, time to nurture his developing green fingers, it could be expensive at the garden centres though between the two of you. :)

                    very promising little gardener then!!!
my older girls on the other hand seem to be more into covering everywhere in flour and sugar whilst they try to bake a cake these days.

It certainly looks like it java&me doesn't it? He loves helping his nanny in her garden too and grows his own beans, veg and other bits there. I hope his enthusiasm doesn't wane as its a great hobby to have.

Maybe it will for a while, when he becomes a teenager and then discovers women, but it will come back. All us dads can do is put as many opportunities as possible in front of our kids, and it certainly looks to me like you're doing that. 15 or so years from now maybe your lad will be a top gardener, if that's what he wants, and he might even join gardeners corner and tell us all how his passion for gardening started when he was tiny, working in the garden alongside his dad.

What a lovely little thread this is...:wub2:. A great gardener in the making I feel. Looking forward to reading his posts soon. GCHQ, am I right in thinking there is no minimum age for being a GC member?
He's made me so happy today Al.
Maybe as his vegetables at Nanny's house mature, he may show us his Harvest ?
                          congratulations young man :yay: ,
