I have grown these to the point where they are starting to produce little (what I assume will turn out to be) flowers.

I keep them on my office window sill which has sunlight all afternoon. Does anyone know what happens next? Do the flowers become fruit? Do I need to let the bees get to them to pollinate or anything?

Any help would be appreciated :thumb:

Hi Milambar. Yes, those little flower buds will turn into flowers then into fruit.
Chillies are self pollinating so you don't have to worry about getting bees and things.
If you want to help, once the flowers are open you can run your finger round the stamens and collect some pollen to run round other flowers but they do seem to manage by themselves.
If you find your chillies are losing flowers without setting fruit move them back from the direct sun on the window sill till the fruit sets. Sometimes if the sun is very strong through the glass it scorches the flowers.
Chillies are quite tough and reliable stuff. I'm confident you'll have loads of chillies soon. Just be patient while you are waiting for those little buds to turn into flowers. They take their time.

    woohoo, I've got a chilli :)

Of the 5 plants, I have probably 10 flowers on each one with 3 times as many buds waiting to flower.

A couple of the flowers have turned brown and the petals are starting to drop away. 1 of them has a green chilli the size of my little finger nail hanging there and I can see the beginnings of 3 others.

I'm over the moon at the moment :ntwrth:

Congratulations Milambar. What did I tell you ! You'll be over run with them soon.
    Enjoy your success.

Hi JayKay. Nothing says chillies will come true from seed. The whole plant might be different, leaves and chillies.
I would let it run and see what happens - you might get something fantastic.

As Alice said using the seeds won`t give you the same result. The best idea is to take cuttings..they will have exactly the same traits as the parent plant.

    UPDATE

My chilli's are now about an inch long and one of them has started to turn red at the tip and working backwards.

I guess that it will be ready to eat once it has fully turned.

You can eat your chillies when you like Milamber, but if you prefer them red then leave them to ripen. If left on the plant for a few weeks after they are ripe they seem to get hotter.
