Bought it last year (maytime) and planted it in a pot and have fed it and looked after it all winetr and now there are about 10 more canes which appear to have shot up in a few days!!I am well chuffed! My neighbour(who I dont really know cos of the layout of the houses) bought what appears to be the same plant just over the fence but his appears to have died. Well pleased that mine has gone a bit rampant.

Well done l-g. I would put it somewhere where your neighbour can see it and get jealous.

We have a bamboo in a 24" wide pot that is thriving. I have the perfect place for it in the garden as it is outgrowing the pot.

Is it likely to spread or disturb anything planted around it? Or should it remain contained, so to speak?

I'm glad this conversation has come up because ours was purchased last year and it is in a large pot and growing at an alarming rate, not that we are complaining!

Three nights ago we suddenly noticed the new shoots about 50-60cms tall ... how we hadn't seen them on previous evenings is quite beyond us! I measured yesterday and they were 90cm. T'other half measured this evening and they are 110cm! I've suggested he sit up with the plant all night (it is his) and see if he can actually watch it grow! :D :D

I wouldn't dare put mine in the ground IckleWeed for fear it would take over the entire garden! Mine will just have to suffer in it's pot.

I inherited my bamboo in a 2ft pot when we moved in. Just got round to taking it out of the pot cos it looked sad - a chain saw couldnt have got through those roots! I tugged and cut and managed to get a few bits of root with shoots and put them in a tall but narrow pot. A month later nad 2 of the shoots are coming up and, as you say LOL, growing at an alarming rate! Glad I didnt put it in the ground too

It's slowing down ... it's only grown 10cms since the same time yesterday evening, now 120cm ... that's four shoots, by the way! One is even taller we hadn't noticed and there are lots of smaller ones!

Is this the revival of The Day of the Triffids?
