LD if you line your baskets with a plastic bin liner - put a few holes in the bottom - this reduces water loss in high summer. It also protects the coconut liners so you can get about 3 or 4 years from a liner. Now the birds pinching the liner is a problem in spring , a terratorial Cocker Spaniel helps a little :D

I had heard of this before and had actually done this to help retain moisture but with the plastic on the inside!

        Thanks everyone :)

The Baskets turned out well last year, i've just been reading up about adding food granules & water retaining gel will help prolong them during the summer and save a little on the watering, so i will try that this year to see if theres a marked improvement :)

I also have a problem with assortment of 'tits' coming into the garden pinching the coconut liners - leaving them quite holey .... i try to trim them up taking off straggley ends before re-using. :)
