I usually get loads and loads of fruit from this gorgeous wee tree but this year although it blossomed the leaves all fell off about August and there are only a few apples on it. Could it be the very wet summer? A late frost?

Sorry I can't really help you Rhylesgranny.
Usually I would say late frosts into May have nipped the blossom and reduced the fruit - but, this year we had a cruel winter with spring late to arrive and perishing cold into May but the apple trees are doing bumper crops .
Very interesting. Love to hear what others say.

We seemingly had 4 weeks of summer here and the rest of the year was the usual mix of mild weather and heavy rain and yet my little pear tree produced more fruit than I've ever known it too!
Perhaps the weather you had just disagreed with your tree or you simply got unlucky. I haven't a clue why.

Crab Apples, I have never had so many, in fact two branches snapped with the weight of them, I did some hasty pruning managed to coerce a hefty neighbour to weld a sledge hammer so now have a very substantial support ready for next year ! but with my sorta luck probably won't need it... the little tree is four years old Oh and a bit of bragging I just could not see all that fruit wasted so now have a lota crab apple jelly enough to last for years It has a lot of uses crab apple jelly I smear it all over pork chops before cooking in a hot oven it caramelizes yummy...

Thanks all. I hope my wee tree recovers. The fruits were a beautiful bright red and made the most gorgeous jelly.
