I have what I think is a fairly healthy plant in the greenhouse. My problem is the plant has produced loads of fruits but they wither and die when they are about 1-2 inches long.
    Whats causing it ?

Actually my grandmother report the exact same problem this year with hers. The cucumbers grew to about 1-2 inches as you say and that was it. She never got to the bottom of this problem.

My cucumbers lasted about two weeks this year and slowly turned yellow, then grey and off they went to veggie heaven.

samuelcat; the answer may also depend on what sort of cucumbers you have.

There are two types - indoor greenhouse type and outdoor 'ridge' type.

Some indoor varieties are sold as F1 “all female”, these are the simplest and most reliable type to grow indoors. The non F1 type (such as Telegraph) you must remove all male flowers otherwise you get bitter fruit. The second type are ‘Ridge' or outdoor cucumbers which need to be pollinated so leave the male flowers on and insects will do their bit to help.

So if you are growing something like Marketmore (a 'Ridge' cucumber) then it may be that the flowers are not being fertilized because there are no insects in your greenhouse.
