I bought a rose 'little rambler' in April. It was a potted one, not bare root. Dug a hole larger than the pot, watered it well in the pot, dug in blood, fish and bone and compost and planted it. Kept it well watered. The buds developed very well, loads of them. They opened up and all looked well.
Then they all withered very suddently and lots of the leaves have gone yellow. It's against a west facing fence and gets plenty of sun from about 10.30-5pm.
I've read through the sticky and the bud thing kind of fits, except the buds aren't slimy and wet, but dry. And this has been since this drier spell. I have kept it watered during the hot weather.
Here's a pic. I'm moving from this house and won't be taking the rose with me as the flowers are a lot smaller than I expected. I plan to have roses in the new garden though, so I'd like to start learning. Thanks :)

Hi Diasybelle I do apologise ,I really have no Idea how I missed your post :o:)I have enlarged your photo hope you did,nt mind, looking at how you describe your rose,my first thoughts are that it could be Bad air circulation or (thrips, mites) and water related causes: drought stress, too much water/bad drainage. Sorry I cannot be more specific at the moment:)

First I would remove all the damaged buds down to the next Bud eye and put them in a container and then check them for Thrips(Thunder Flies) or other Pests, also examine all the the remaining ones that you have left on your rose. Please let me know how you get on.:)

Thank you. I'll trim off the buds then. What's a bud eye?
The soil is quite clayey, but I dug in a good amount of compost when I planted it.
    I'll check for bugs.
