My (first) success with fennel

    Bought a fennel plant last year after the one a friend of mine gave me the previous year failed to thrive.

    Had to take the risk of unearthing it last October (but replanting it an hour or two later) to dig that area.

    Yesterday .....

    Don't know if I was meant to cut down the old growth or not, but .... look at that lovely fresh green growth!

    And to think, 10 days ago it was under a thick blanket of snow.

    It you keep sowing saved seeds from your plants each spring you'll also have a later crop of fresh leaves for cutting. And yes cut down those old stems but I leave them on until they sprout to mark the positions of the plants.

      Thanks, Scrungee :) Good tip about leaving the stems as a marker until new growth appears :dbgrtmb:

      Unfortunately, I didn't save any seed (bad Mum! :heehee: ) Haven't learned the art of seed saving yet.
