My first tropical is in

    Today I was passing by my local asian store and couldn`t not notice the fresh lemon grass....I usually start that in in March , but couldn`t resist to It.
    this is how you start and how it will look in October.
    ps.seen some fresh chayote...really tempted to grow some of them.

      you should Julie....expecially you can use them as marginal plant , shame that over here they only grown to 3/4 feet .....apparently can reach 6/8 feet in tropical areas.

        Thanks for that Sal!! I'll see if they have some next time I go shopping. Do you just let it root in water and then plant it up? How large a pot??

        Armandii....they will not grow as much but they will grow....for the shady party buy some addoes from your local asian store....I usually start them in March......or if you are lucky enough to find a south east shop buy some renkon root ....they are the lotus flower ,only bough ones in the japanese store and fried them in winter ....usually they produce white or pink flowers.

          there are loads more, and there is one huge root thingy (about 12-15 inches long and as thick as a butternut squash .... not sure what it's called though

            Dim they are the cassava root and the yam root

            I would love to try one this year as apparently they reach 6 feet in one season....
            I`ve tryed turmeric and they are really nice plant as well.
            but also i would love to find Renkon and taro.

            and this are the indian taro.

            It all depend where they coming from , the big pne are the east asian and can be found in thai shop ,my addoes come from pakistan , so tiny smaller .

              Good idea Sal, I think ill give lemon grass a go this year.

              We have grown various other root crops from the asian grocers in the past, but havent done so for a few years. Really must grow some again this year!

              Got my lemon grass today and put it in some water to root. We will see how it goes!!

              My Taro (Colocasia Esculenta) only grow to about 3ft!!
