    .. have arrived :dancy:

This year I have mainly been selecting grass seed. With my daughter's allocation as well I've got 40 different packets to sow, this is going to be a busy spring :dbgrtmb:

Must get the scruffy old border cleared where my new grasses are going to live.

Not lawn/meadow grass stuff that needs mowing :), I've got ornamental grasses which should grow into nice clumpy type affairs with attractive seed heads. Some of them are closely related to meadow grasses like Fescues and agrostis (creeping bent) but hopefully a bit less invasive :dbgrtmb:

Aah, there's a pretty little one grows down here, not ID'd it yet, think its a Sedge, only grows about 10 inches & hasn't spread in 4 years.

I'll see which one it is & bring you a bit up next time I come if you want.

My absolutely favourite is Molinia Caerulea "Transparent" - it "does what it says on the tin!" - so important there is something behind to look through onto, mine is around the pond

I'm also fond of Miscanthus sacchariflorus / sacchariflora (not sure of spelling) which makes a narrow-ish tall clump.

And if you want a statement (at the fork in a path, for example) then I think Arundo donax behind a variegated form (in front) looks striking.

(I've got photos if you need them)

I have a few ornamental grasses , quaking grass (Briza media ) is my favourite . But I find grass really hard to grow from seed:gaagh:Grew some blue grass from seed I collected about 500 seeds - 2 germinated - thats TWO i.e 0.4% ! Reseeding my lawns 50 / 50 chance , that repatch grows the one 2 feet away nothing ! Now if you want to grow grass in the cracks on a flagged drive , I'm your man :dbgrtmb:

In that case you are a marked man - would you please STOP sowing your grass in the cracks in my flag stones :heehee:

Amongst the packets are Briza maxima and media :dbgrtmb: Sounds like they are a good choice.

Grass seed need relatively low temperatures to germinate 10 to 16C, and Briza needs up to 90 days according to the RHS Germination Requirements :)

There's not many seeds in each packet so I won't need a really big area :D

Think my favorite is Cocksfoot Grass, and not just for the amusing name.

Carefull if you google that one:shocked::chicken:

Thanks Ziggy, I've got 3 packets of sedge (Carex) seed so I might have it. I wouldn't mind a bit of your plant some time just in case it's different
