As mentioned in another thread I am waiting till next year to sort the bottom of the garden out as it's gonna take a bit of back breaking work to do so I have started to concentrate on the top 'higher' level we have for the time being. I shall post updates here as and when we attack and 'fix' certain areas.

To start we have removed all the pea shingle at the top of the steps and replaced with some 20mm purple slate [BOGOF at our local garden centre at the moment :dbgrtmb:]. We are hoping the cats will find it more difficult to do their business in this stuff but will find out for sure in the morning!

Still have the need for maybe two or three more bags of slate to deepen and get right to the edges under the bench and the corners but ran out of cash today! I have left enough overlap of the weed barrier to lie under the paving slabs when I get round to lifting and redoing those soon.

Thanks for sharing this. It looks really nice.

It also gives me some ideas for my own garden.

Glad it has given you some ideas clueless. I'm a complete novice when it comes to gardening so am learning all the way! I pretty good at visualising what I want but getting it done is the hard part lol

I'm sort of the opposite (except for the bit about being a novice, which I think we have in common).

I am no good at all at working out what I want. I've tried and tried to be creative and imaginative, but sadly, inspiration just doesn't flow.

Completed a little more of the project this afternoon. Raised the paving slabs, laid down some new heavy duty weed barrier, and relaid the slabs on a fresh bed of sand then filled in the gaps with purple slate.

I also renewed the screening you see behind the bench! I shall carry on with some more screening to hide the ugly fence panel once I have sorted the ground of the little corner the panel runs into.

Thanks Kyle. I've had to put a slight hold on the back garden as the missus has had enough of the cats defecating on a wee patch outside the front of the house which was pea shingled [obviously] some time ago. So I've removed all the shingle there and dug it over, removed a ruddy great big Fuchsia root and three small tree's which were beginning to grow, hidden by the Fuchsia before it was cut down. Laid some weed barrier down ready to cover in the same slate we are using out the back.....when our local garden centre gets some more in. Annoyingly enough, it was my father that cleaned them out after I told him the bags were on a BOGOF
