    Thanks for your kind comments.

As for the suculents they are protected in a number of ways for winter. The more tender ones in pots go into the greenhouse which we keep at a minimum of +2, but generally +5. Others are hardy if kept dry so they go under a temporary cold frame, the bigger agaves have a shelter built over the top. This winter we also bought a cloche for starting vegies off which will be erected over some.

Its not the best view, but will all be hidden by the bamboo pots form the house.

The big pond (see the detailed gallery in the pond topic section on here) is new and near the bottom of the garden. The small pool is basically for frogs, whih (i hope) really help with the slugs and snails.

Unfortunately we havent had any frog spawn for the last two years, but maybe 2009 will be the year of baby frogs!

Blimey Gaz...it's brilliant !! Lots of interest/features. How long did this take you ? How was it before ? What size is your garden ? I'm not a plantsman so I'll have to ask, is that a red fatsia ? I'm not keen on them myself (normally) but it looks nice in red. Cheers...freddy.

Thanks again for your comments guys.

We moved into the house back in April 2005, so this is the 4th season. There are some before shots Here . We knew from moving in that it was going to be a tropical themed garden. We need some of the taller growing plants to get going now.

The red leafed plant in the second picture is ricinus (so similar in appearance to fatsia) it is rather poisonous so care should be takem if growing it, especially if children are likely to visit your garden. We grow it as an annual, and the seed was from chiltern seeds - they sell a selection of different types.

Well Gaz, you've done a great job in a relatively short time. To me, it looks like it's always been there, it's so well established. What's the story with the pond that WAS there ? Ricinus....ok.....noted. Cheers...freddy.

Some of the plants have grown very quickly, but others still look like they need to get going, the photos dont really show the 'gaps'

The owner of the house five years before we bought it had a large pond, some 5-6' deep, 20 odd feet across. It had holes in the bottom, and most of the associated pipework and equipment had gone. We didnt want to have a pond wheer it was, so decided to fill it in. Its now filled and planted part of it will be a small patio with a couple of sunloungers, as it is secluded from the neighbours.

BTW, just thought, all those plants must have cost you a fortune.
