Very rarely did anyone see him lift a finger on his allotment, yet he was always two weeks ahead of everybody else.
I rush around like a headless chicken, yet I'm usually the last to get anything done.
How the hell did he do it? [IMG]

Sadly Paladin, both he and my Grandma passed away last year, 90 and 86 respectively. At least he got to pass on much of his knowlege to a Grandson who shared his interests (not just gardening either [IMG] ) He never told me quite everything though and he often let me do things the hard way first [IMG]
Looking back, I think he was just really organised, perhaps that was the secret to his gardening technique.

    So sorry.....
Watch,Listen and Learn, that was what my G-parents preached. I lived near both Mum and Dads parents and spent every minute I could with them, and the knowledge I gained was not always things read in books, that's for sure! They were real, honest country folk with great pride in who they were and the way they lived. I was a very lucky lad to have been a part of them.

[IMG] This is a pic. of one of my Grandads with my Mother taken around 1920 ish....
I remember he kept pigs and chickens at the bottom of the garden where his rows of vegetables were immaculately straight. He smoked a pipe and we always bought him coloured pipe lighters for Christmas.
I dont quite know what he would say if he returned now..........

    Blimey now I am a Grandad :D

I really wish my Grandad was about now. He died a few years ago but he loved gardening.... he would love helping me plan and plant my garden and would be so proud when it was done and I miss that. I wish I'd spoken to him more about his hobby now as I'd have a ton of knowledge and advice!

I still can't walk past fushia without it reminding me of him [IMG]

I can say the same of my parents and I think that they attended to the garden in those hours where it is more confortable to work, meaning the early morning and early evening. Also an older person puts more thinking and possibly more planning in what he does, consequently wasting less energy with more results.
