    Hey everyone,

So my indoor hyacinth are starting to grow but as soon as the flower starts to appear they then start to die before flowering. This photo is a newer batch of bulbs as the same thing had happened to the first ones that I'd planted.

    What could be the cause?

Are you growing them at room temperature, or are you starting them off cold?
I'm just wondering if they are too warm.

Started them off at room temperature on the window sill but it's generally quite a cold drafty area.

Not sure how different the bulbs labelled 'indoor hyacinth' are to the regular outdoor ones in terms of temperatures etc but theses aren't doing well any time i try.

Both indoor and outdoor ones need to be started off cool.

Indoor, or prepared bulbs are usually planted in pots and placed outside around Sept or Oct.
You grow them on fairly cold until the shoots start to show, at which point you can warm them up slowly, but any heat at that point makes them bolt and grow long leaves.

The ones you have there, I assume, are unprepared bulbs intended for outdoor growing?

Even so they need to have a cold spell at which point they grow roots, lot of em, then the shoot starts to form, but they still need to be kept pretty cool.
Even when in full flower they don't last long in a warm room.

My guess is yours didn't make good roots before starting to grow.

If its any consolation I don't have great success myself  and usually buy some at the very tight flower bud stage and keep them in an unheated porch.

Interested in this as well as I have had the exact same problem.

1st time trying this, they started opening up and looked very healthy then the flowers died before fully opening.
Bulbs will be planted outside for next year I think.

Yes there's drainage but it's just a ceramic pot with one hole in the middle so I also added perlite to the compost. Still no luck.
