    Hello from Leeds,

I've recently installed a couple of raised beds with the intension of growing some of our own veg and hopefully getting the kids away from the telly in the process. I had an allotment many years ago but only for a season and only grew potatoes and onions. Well strawberry's and rhubarb too but i can't take much credit for them.

    Here are the beds.

    and here's is the plan.

The last rows on the left are carrots.

Wish me luck and brace for the questions.

      Welcome to the forum.

I think 4 courgettes will take over one raised bed, they do grow big. Two would give you lots over the summer. If you like them I would try and squeeze in peas as kids always love them picked fresh and runner beans, you can grow them up canes over the courgettes.

I agree fresh uncooked peas from the pod were one of my favourites when I was young along with raw runner beans just picked.
Raw carrots with just the dirt rubbed off was good as well.

Sorry two of those courgettes should be cucumbers.

I might take out one of the courgette plans, I was debating if I needed two anyway and this will give them a little more space.

Peas have also been on my radar but not managed to work any into the plan yet.

            Thanks for the input all

We would put a couple of Strawberries and Tumbling Tom Tomatoes in there to cascade down the sides , the kids would love picking them.

Not sure about any Courgettes as some types foliage can seem to be a little prickly even for our old skin, plus they need masses of space and water/feed and nearly alway get covered in Mildew.
If you do grow one, then try a type that you can grow vertically up some support to give you more bed space.
