Well after moving house (where I had my own lovely allotment), I’ve now finally got a public allotment. I saw the local parish council advertising them in the next village to me. My current village had a waiting list Id been on for 3 years and never heard anything.

anyway…got a plot for £52 a year…then mum decided to join in with me and weve got a second plot that is adjoining now.

So far weve cut a lot of the grass back, tidied up the edges, put some fencing in, made some raised beds, shovelled about 3 tonnes of top soil/mushroom compost.

annoyingly not allowed sheds or greenhouses, but have put a 4 ft fence up for some shelter from the wind. IMG_5269 Medium.jpeg

Wow. That is fantastic. And also the mother/daughter team!

One of those raised beds is the size of what my town calls an entire allotment. Ridiculously puny.

What are you planning on growing?

I believe @JWK uses part of his as a cut garden. I'd love one of those. :)

        Well done @Snorky85

Mrs Shiney sends her best wishes :)

Are you not even allowed a small blowaway greenhouse?

Good luck with all of it. :imphrt:

Well done Snorky, how about digging a bunker instead of a shed?! :heehee:

Maybe you would be allowed some kind of low mini polytunnel or cold frame over a raised bed to bring on seedlings and extend the season a bit? The plot next door in the first pic looks as if it's got some kind of plastic-covered frame rigged up.

Odd that they don't allow sheds. Maybe it's to stop people from keeping tools or anything of value there, to deter crime. Bit of a pain to have to carry everything with you from home though. And no shed means no gutter to collect water for a water butt (hopefully there's a tap somewhere no too far away).

Looks like a good size and in good condition :blue thumb:. Excellent fencing for those strategically placed chairs :).

Looks like the kind of place where a blow away greenhouse would do just that, blow away.

But a good open site for maximum sunshine.

Thanks everyone-I’m so excited by it. It is sooo peaceful there, so much so, the council have bought the field next door and it’s going to become a cemetery (nice quiet neighbours) :)

@CanadianLori def going to be having a couple of bits for cut flowers etc.

Front half of plot with most raised beds is going to be veg and flowers, back bit for fruit etc and it has a golden delicious apple tree and a plum already.

in back part we are going to sow some wild flower seeds too.

@Loofah i did actually think about digging down

I’ve ordered a largeish “blow away” and going to put it up with one of the fence panels behind it-the wind only seems to come from one direction as the plot i picked is sheltered from a big hedge next to farmers field. If they don’t like it they can tell me (but everyone on the site wants sheds etc but apparently there is one parish councillor who think it would look like a “shanty town”.

Think we’ll be having issues with deer…saw one on the plot the day i went to look at the site. There’s also a very friendly fox. I’ve got some mesh netting etc and got some fencing to finish off.

Even if stuff gets eaten i dont mind-it’s just so lovely being down there-so peaceful, I love it. A much needed escape from work at the moment which is incredibly stressful.

behind our plot there is a trough and tap, its got one of those pumps on it that automatically refill the trough when the water level drops-so great for watering

@pete it certainly is open-sun has been brilliant down there.

thought i might put some poles up and a sail shade for some shelter.
