Hi Marge, I saw your post yesterday and finally remembered to do you a list of my bench planting.

I know its a bit late now but it still might be useful ?

Behind the bench the cherry hedge is quite thin and in winter can be less than private. I have thickened it with some Laurel and Spotted laurel. Also growing in the hedge are a passion flower, ivies and Virginia creeper. To the right of the bench I have a large pot of orange flowering day lilies which I inherited with the house and potted up. To the left I have ferns, and behind a bamboo. On the left trellis I have more ivies, jasmine and a smaller virginia creeper and a clematis growing up a bamboo and pampas grass.

Sorry it took so long here are the plants in full.

Jasmine - Is lime green but I have mislaid the label, sorry

    Daylilies - Inhertitus Orangeycolor

    Lady Fern 'Athyrium filix-femina'

    Virginia Creeper 'Parthenocissus quinquefolia'

    Chinese Virginia Creeper 'Parthenocissus henryana'

Ivy - Golden Heart and others...

Pampas Grass 'Cortaderia selloana Sunningdale Silver'

    Phyllostachys aurea Golden Bamboo

    Laurel 'Prunus laurocerasus Rotundifolia'

    Japanese Laurel 'Aucuba japonica'

    Clematis 'Clematis Princess Diana'

Word of warning about your ââ?¬Ë?hopââ?¬â?¢. I love this plant it looked really jungly with my other plants, but it attracted lots of aphids, was skin irritant and can be spiteful to prune. However I didnââ?¬â?¢t mind all that, I finally removed it because my neighbour never shut up about how rampant it was and was never too careful about pulling it off MY trellis because of new shoots overhanging. It may not be neighbour friendly when mature, which only takes a couple of years.

What you have done looks fab the way, lobelia is lovely. [IMG]

Thanks very much BM for the list - I still have some more bits to fill up so will have a good look at what youve got!
I love the hop but its being eaten so youve answered my question saying about it attracting aphids! I will have to see how it goes size-wise - my neighbour is pretty good about such things but we'll see!!
I have a previously neglected bamboo in a large pot that is looking much happier this year - I want to put it in a better pot and youve given me an idea to plant a clematis or something like that through it - I want to put it at the back to the side [IMG] I may even keep it in the pot and bury it!
    Thanks again BM :D

Cool, the bamboos can get a bit boring. certianly the golden bamboo benefits looks wise from some companion planting, and they make a great frame. [IMG]

    Princess Diana goes well.

It is a most highly regarded clematis, one of my very favourites, even if it is pink!
