    Hi all

Just popped in to say Hi and get some advice in the future.

I have bought an old farmhouse, and the back garden was the paddock so trying to make something of it.

Welcome Rob, your plot looks fantastic, loads of gardeing potential to become idyllic. Stick around and get some ideas, loads of people on here with lots of different styles. I go for tropicals and it works well for me. What sort of style/garden are you after. Welcome again, great pictures and am loving the brick work of your new boundary wall.

    Thanks everyone.

I have been working on the garden for about a year now after finishing the house off. That took a couple of years!!

The top garden is sorted, just starting the planting now. The middle tier is a bit vague, will work it out when I have seeded it for grass and I can then stand in the middle and plan it properly.

The bottom bit by the house will have a 4m round formal pond with a cascade/water staircase with steps going up both side.

So, I figure I have about another 18 months of hard graft to get the hard landscaping done and then its the fun part of planting, pruning, weeding. :D

Need to get some trees this autumn though as the garden has very little shade.

    All the best

    Rob

Hi Rob, lovely house and garden and your plans for the back sound really good. I will be most interested in seeing how it develops. Your right, until the design and landscaping is done, then planting is a joy to come.

When considering trees for that site, consider the lighter foliage trees, which will give some shade but not overpower - e.g. birch, salix and sorbus

    Fancy

I am kind of a traditionalist so mayb tropical won't suit, but who knows what I might plant in the end.

    Fran

Thanks very much for the tips on trees, have been looking at the RHS encyclopedia for trees and really can't make my mind up yet.

    All the best

Hello, Robert, nice place there. I was in Bucks for many, many years (about 22 me'thinks). Where are you in Northants? You've got a nice canvas to work with but you have to decide on your style and colour scheme. When you've done that, we'll be all over you with suggestions.

Love that Border Collie (am I right, I'm a cat person) as well!
