Last Sunday I was fortunate enough to have taken over an allotment. :yess:

It's very over grown, and its taken me a while just to get it cleared.

But its starting to shape up now.

Been trying to get some pics to load onto my Mac via bluetooth, but cant seem to save them, must find that USB lead. :o

Will take up the camera later I think.

Lucky you.....no sign of anything materialising in the near future in my area :(. Hope it goes well for you, are you putting anything in there now?.

I used to have issues with my iMac and sending stuff through bluetooth. It always seemed to loose the connection for some reason at random intervals

:yess: That is fantastic news! Good luck with getting it cleared but you should certainly be able to plant some Aquadulce broad beans to come up next year if nothing much else... Get those photos loaded then.. :sunny:

Congrats Bimble! 4 days is not too long and good going really to clear an allotment that is overgrown. If you can get hold of some black plastic sheet or old carpet (not foam back) to cover the ground which will help killing weeds and also stop them regrowing.

One of the plot holders on our site grows these overwinter just to dig them into the soil in Spring for the Nitrogen.

        Steve...:)

Hello everyone, sorry its taken me so long to post up, lets just say I'm not very happy with Virgin Media services who've messed us around like silly over the last few days. :wallbang:

The plot was overgrown and hadn't been touched for 3 years.

But my determination to clear it has impressed the other allotment holders.

Still its all cleared barr the fire heap in the middle that's waiting for November the 5th, need to find a tarp to keep it dry but they seem to be missing, I have just a pond to dig out, as we have a little one on the way, everyone has told me that the frogs eat the slugs and snails but they also eat the good imo.

I took out two pear trees, a load of fruit bushes, some of which I've kept, preferring to keep to the Victorian love of straight lines, my trusty measuring tape has proved invaluable.

I have only dug over the plot to the bonfire from the bottom of the plot, I need to start double digging to free the soil up a bit more past this up to where the greenhouse stood, which I also had to clear of Ivy and other dead wood.

Also knocked together a leaf composter, aswell as a kitchen waste composter made from an old bed frame that was being thrown out of the empty flat which was rented out but never lived in.

So far I have in .....

Two green Gooseberries, three red Gooseberries, two apples trees (not sure of type), two Blackcurrants, one Whitecurrant, eleven Shugborough Raspberries plants (moved after housing association got upset where I put them near to our flat), a couple of raised beds of Strawberries, some Loveage, Sage, Borage, and Rhubarb.

The plot is twelve feet wide, by ..... well I forget, but each of 3 plots is fifteen feet long each, with plenty of space for a small herb garden, and a soft fruit plot.
Its all coming together quite well, I am rather pleased if truth be told.

I've made my plans for planting, and have a plan of what I'm doing.

Anyway here's to Harry Dodson, who's been a big inspiration for me. :love30:

And a BIG THANKYOU to you know who, whom lent me the DVD of The Victorian Kitchen Garden.

One of the best TV programs made.

          Much Love

:yess: Oh well done mate, it looks lovely soil where you have dug already.. Overgrown it may have been/be but the potential is there I can see.. I am sure you will have it conquered very soon.. Harry was the best TV gardener...!!! he ran the garden at Chilton Foliat as a nursery & lived in the gardeners cottage till his death in 2005... Sadly it then fell into rack & ruin... This was 2009
 I did hear the potting sheds were all holiday lets now, anyone else know anything.?

Just to change the subject again .....

Damn Virgin Media have cut us off again, and trying to charge us £50 connection fee, very strange.

The words "Brewery" and "pee up" come to mind.

              PS I HATE McDonalds ! :(

I forgot to say Thanks for the support everyone. :)

We seem to be back online again now, for how long god knows, if there is one, lol.
We've moved internet providers due to them.
At least I'm not stuck using free limited wifi in that dreadful burger bar, not a good place for a vegan.

Well I've dug out the pond and levelled it all over, just waiting till I've got enough mental energy to start the double digging, its been a very long week, on top of all that has gone on we now have what seem to be the neighbours from hell moved in above us.

"Telle est la vie" as my Mac translator tells me is "such is life". :rolleyespink:

Very sad to hear that about Harry's work, what people often dont realise is the centuries of work which go into producing that soil, the soil at Shugborough walled garden was originally brought in from Lincolnshire, and enriched over years.
It really is a great shame to see such work go to wreck and ruin, I only hope Shugborough doesn't go the same way.

Some more pics of the pond before and after.

My two composters, and the fruit and herb section.

If its okay with everyone, would it possible to use this thread as a diary for my allotment adventures ?
