    Hi Guys,

I was hoping you might be able to help me.
I am a complete Gardening Novice. And am thus making a lot of mistakes but learning a long the way.
In march I bought some bareroot roses, rasberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants in the sales from B&Q.
Not knowing what I was doing and purely following the advice at the back of the packet soaked the bareroots for a maximum of ten minutes before planting them without adding any Mycorrhizal Fungi. The raspberry, blackcurrants and redcurrants had already grown leaves at that which quickly died back. After some research I now realise everything I did was completely wrong
Now in April, only one of the roses is showing signs of life and very little at that. The blackcurrant and redcurrant have grown some leaves. But the raspberry looks dead.
I don't know whether the two other roses and the raspberry are still alive after their ordeal and was wondering whether I should dig them add and replant them with Mycorrhizal Fungi.

Any help would be much appreciated

Good morning @Misscanthus You say back in March as if it was a long time ago but in reality it is only a matter of weeks my friend Your Roses will be fine they are just taking time to settle in,as regard to your Roses you have done nothing wrong, all I can respectfully suggest is that you have a little patience ,IMHO I wouldn't move them now, leave them where you are,a photo of your roses would be most helpful if that is possible, but don't worry about them, they should be fine, I could suggest that if you gently scrape one of the canes with your finger nail and it is green then you know they are alive, but I would wait another 4 weeks before you attempt that:smile:

Thank you Wiseowl for reassuring me. Everywhere roses have started growing and I was worried about mine.
'll give them more time to settle in and as you say worst case give them a little scratch in a month to see. I'll just leave them alone for now and shall be posting a picture tomorrow.

@wiseowl, is the same true for the raspberry canes, as my girlfriend bought 4/5 trees and some canes in march and only one apple tree appears to have any growth showing. Thanks.

Good morning @MissAgapanthus with respect your Roses need to be planted a little deeper and firmed in with the heel of your shoe,be careful you don't touch the rose though ;)

                1. Dig at least a foot deep and perhaps a little wider so you can accommodate the rose's roots without cramping, pushing, or bending them.

                2. Loosen the soil on the sides and in the bottom of the hole, using your fingers or a trowel.

This way, the roots can head outward and downward more easily when they're ready.

                3. Mound up a cone of soil in the middle on which to rest the plant.

This method is much easier than trying to sift soil back in around the roots as you

                1. Cut off any damaged, black, or rotten stems or roots.

                2. Shorten all the canes to about 8 inches long.

This step reduces stress on the plant when it goes into the ground. Don't worry — it'll surge into growth pretty fast! Make each cut at a 45-degree angle to an outside eye (the swollen bump on the stem) to direct new growth outward.

                3. Shorten the roots with a little 1-inch haircut.Cut off an inch to stimulate new growth.
                1. Hold the plant in one hand atop the center mound and spread the roots out over it.

                2. Backfill good soil in and around the plant, pressing down lightly as you go to eliminate air pockets.

                3. Make a 12- to 18-inch basin of soil or mulch around the plant when you're done.

This step makes watering easier. Give the plant a good soaking! If it settles too low in the hole after the watering, wiggle the plant back up.

Thank you so much wiseowl. I have no clue what I'm doing.
Should I follow those steps and replant them or just mound up soil arround them?

Hi @MissAgapanthus I can see you are passionate and how much you care for your Roses that is all you need my friend, I would respectfully suggest that you replant the two roses by following the steps above, that don't seem to be making any progress, but leave the Rose that is growing
please keep us updated my friend(take your time on the planting and enjoy it);):blue thumb:

I replanted the roses as suggested this weekend and did add some mycorrhizal fungi. Unfortunately I think I might have lost them. I gave them a little scratch and couldn't see any green

I shall let them be for now. Hopefully they will show signs of life. Although I'm losing hope
