Can anyone help me identify a lovely if straggly shrub growing in the front garden? It blocks the view of an Aucuba, so it's doing a great service, but I've no idea what it is. It's about 5 foot tall, with slightly serrated leaves, and reddish brown stems, and it's prone to what looks like mildew at the tips in late Spring/early summer. Picture attached. Thanks and best wishes, Steven

It's quite early in the year, but it looks to me like Spiraea arguta, the Bridal Wreath. Much a better looking shrub than the Aucuba!

Thank you JackoFish. Just what I needed to know. It's been a very mild winter. And if I prune it after flowering, hopefully next year it will be a bit less straggly too.
