I put this in Trees yesterday as a followup but think it needs to go here.

This is the mystery tree Kedi-Gato brought back from Cyprus. Well, actually she brought the stones back which she found lying under the tree and rooted them ... very successfully, I might add, as she brought me six treelets about 30cm in her suitcase along with four more stones!

She nor her hubby can remember what colour the flowers were [IMG] but said it was very pretty and the tree was smallish, perhaps 15-20 feet tall.

Any ideas as I need to leave these in their small pots until I find out what they are.

    Thank you in advance.

It looks a bit Nerium Oleanderish to me but I assume you would reconise it, if that was what it is. [IMG]

The leaves are not stuff like a Nerium which has pods not stones! As they are stones, I'm wondering if it's a fruit of some sort?

These strange nuts are at least 4cm long, split on one side. I cracked one open tonight and there's a pithy white "something" inside about 1cm or less in size. If this helps ???

And you were my only hope! I cracked one of these nuts open last night. They are about 4cm long. There was a white pithy thing inside about 1/2cm wide.

I was looking on the net at Cyprus trees and found a Zizyphus Lotus mentioned a lot but no piccies.

Thanks for that, Pete. The leaves look similar but my nuts (excuse me) are at least 4cm and the ones on this site are 2.5cm. There was one pic with insignificant flowers and both K-G and hubby said they were beautiful flowers!

The leaves look a different shape to yours, and it also has spines.
Is there any sign of spines or thorns on your plant.

Not yet, but it's only 30cm tall ... will check tomorrow for signs of developing killer thorns! :D

No, that was not the tree we saw in Cyprus. "Ours" had a rounded umbrella shape and none of them seemed to be taller than perhaps 3-4 meters. Something else I just remembered was that they were often planted along roads, like Jacarandas are in Portugal.

    I a bit confused now.
Is that plant not from those nuts?
Is that plant nothing like the trees in Cyprus? [IMG] [IMG]
