Hi 888300 & [IMG].. Well depending on where you found it it could be A Marsh Orchis- Orchis latifolia.. 6"-18" tall & found in moist meadows & marshes throughout Britain..

    Or..

It could be A Spotted Orchis - Orchis maculata... 12"-24" high & is found in meadows & pasture field throughout Britain..

 Which do you think it is..??

It could be the pyramidal orchid - we used to know a place where these and bee orchids grew wild when I was a kid. I used to love going to see them.

We have several Spotted Orchis growing in a container, we think that a bird must have dropped the seed.

I can see this is an older thread. But I am wondering if someone might dig up a couple of these and send them to me at my expense of course when they are not in spike or bloom? I'm an orchid lover!:spinning:

      Thanks!

Probably illegal and unlikely to survive.

They also need the right fungi to live in symbiosis with.

            Sorry, Julie

We have strict laws over here about wild orchids (whether they're in the wild or not) and they can't be dug up.

We have some in our garden (thank you, birds :blue thumb:) but, as Zigs, says, these type of orchids are symbiotic with a special bacterium.

These are a couple of photos of bee orchids from our garden. Each head is not much more than an inch!
