    Hi all
I've just made the first impulse buy of the year and no doubt it'll not be the last :heehee: but I couldn't resist. Anyway I've bought the above mentioned Nandina domestica and after reading up a little on it I believe it has a reputation of suckering and becoming a bit of a thug. I also read that it is suitable for growing in a container.

Ideally I'd like it in the ground but if it's going to take over I'm happy to grow it in a big pot. Does anyone have any experience of growing this beautiful shrub and if so would you recommend ground or container?

I've got one and it certainly isn't a thug, in fact it's very slow growing. I tried it in the ground but it looked unhappy so it doesn't like my chalky soil, it's in a big pot now and has perked up.

I'd agree with John, it's not an invasive plant at all.

Mine is planted out in the ground, and it's been quite happy there for many years. My soil is sandy, slightly acid and dries out quickly, so it probably depends on your soil type as to whether you plant it out or put it in a pot.

Thank you JWK & Trunky....I'm glad I asked now. Space is at a premium in my garden and there really isn't room for a thug, I think I'll put it in the ground. As I understand it my soil is pretty neutral and the spot when I'd like it to go is part shade and the soil moist but doesn't get waterlogged. Do you think it will be OK there?
