i have a large container with nasturtiums and bidens godess plants in. one of the nasturtium plants has began droping all of a sudden (within today) I have watered them, and the compost is moist and they have been fed in the last week so i cant see the problem?

Nasturtiums don't need fed. they prefer poor soil, and will flower much better without feeding, which tends to encourage lush foliage in them, instead of flowers.

Sounds to me like it could be a problem at the root - hope it's not vine weevil - unless you can see damage to the stem low down. Pop another seed in - should germinate quickly, and give you later flowers (frost permitting!) :)

I have more nasturtiums then I know what to do with, they self seed and also I did nto bother to pck up all the seeds on the ground last year.

Best ground cover plants to have specially when I was first trying to decide what to put in the garden and where.
This year I have moved quite a few plants to a piece of ground that I know is not very good and the nasturtiums are doing pretty well there.

The blackfly seem to love them tho.:)

I learned the same thing about feeding nasts. on here this year. I grow mine in pots & had the most enormous leaves but no flowers for ages - now they are just starting to die off(some of the flowers I mean, still buds on). I love them now.

So I make a point of not feeding them, although all my pots are a mixture of compost & grow-bag stuff:rolleyes:

Inter - I didn't notice the blackfly first. Now there's loads of them. I have 'learned' how to use the bug sprayer now, what a twit I was squirting it like a jet:o, so am blasting when I remember!

Does anyone know if they come in other colours apart from red & yellow?

    cheers

I've seen them in the garden centre borrowers - 'peaches and cream' they may have been called?
