I would put 2 in each pot Val , just using normal compost . A clear plastic bag over the Thunbergia will help . The nasturtiums will be fine without . Hopefully about two thirds of Thunbergia will germinate . If two seeds show , you can split them into other pots when they are big enough :blue thumb:

One nasturtium seed per pot is fine. They're usually very reliable.

I usually sow nasturtiums directly into the soil, and have never failed with them yet. In fact, its harder to get rid of them when you don't want them than it is to get the to germinate in my experience.

Is there any benefit to sowing them in trays? Do they flower earlier/longer?

I usually sow a few indoors, but never in trays. I think they are too large a plant to suit it. I start them individually in small pots. I do this just to get them a head start.

I also sow directly into the soil.

In my experience, the pot grown ones run out of energy by mid summer, but by then the direct sown ones are well away to take over.

The nasturtiums only took a couple of days to germinate. This is the first time that I have tried them so did them in trays not realising they would all take or how quick they would grow:huh: I have had to pot them all on today:oopss:

I've just dug my packet of nasturtiums out - think I will have to get a couple sown to get a head start. I have a tiny wee corner in the front garden which is next to a couple of camellias, and I am hoping that the nasturtiums will climb up and over the wall, as well as up part of one of the camellias to give a splash of colour in the summer.
