Hi everyone. Im trying to make my garden into a cottage garden. Today I took up a slab path so i can replace it with a more natural looking one. any ideas before i start on what i could use. I was thinking a brick edged path with shingle down the middle. Will this be ok?

Hi Vegpatch we used wooden boards, gravel and a slab combo last year in our side garden and we think it worked out so well that we are doing the same again for the back garden.
I would suggest that you make sure you use some kind of weed membrane before you put the shingle in place to keep any weeds at bay, we placed loads of cardboard down first before the membrane and so far it's still looking good!

Below is a picture of ours. Hel.xxx.

Brick and shingle sounds ideal, Vegpatch. You might want to consider using some slabs as stepping stones on any more well-trodden areas, as shingle can be a bit bad for walking on (esp with high heels - or so I'm told!).

Cor I wish I'd read this 2 weeks ago! That's a really good idea to put down cardboard first, I went straight on with the membrane for my gravel area!

Lol at crofthouse in high heels:D
