2 of my 4 cannas have buds on! Very exciting after all the lovely pictures here. Our local park has beautiful maroon/ red mottled leaf ones with red flowers, I would like some of those next year, anyone got them?

Nice one Liz, yes they flower quite late without the sun on their backs all day and lots of food. :D

I took them out of full sun as they were wilting and I thought they might break- they had a very late start as slugs ate them to the soil when they were about 3" high. Have been feeding them with chicken manure as you [?] suggested. One is still a bit chewed but I hope the smaller ones will flower.

Mine appear to have finished flowering, only had three ... unless a few more decide to come! Quite disappointing actually. I'm going to move mine in the Autumn. I've collected the seeds, although I've never attempted them from seed before. I have Brilliant, bright green leaves and clear red flowers ... very common here! [IMG]

Liz, they can drink and eat for england, they just adjust their size and flowering accordingly it seems. If you nurture them you can get some absolute whoppers. :D I had a beautiful almost purple one which I have 1 last seed for which is called Fatamorgana. I am too nervous to sow it as it doesn't seem to be widely available so much now as I think the national collection and their surrounding supporters got hit hard by canna virus, in part because of their new found popularity. :(
